Description

What is Alaria seaweed?

Alaria is a brown seaweed, also known as Atlantic Wakame, and is found in the Northern Hemisphere. It has a delicate and slightly sweeter taste than wakame seaweed.  Alaria leaves are silky and a bit crunchy.  Dried Alaria leaves will rehydrate in minutes

You may notice a white powder covering the surface of the dried alaria leaf. This is not mould, but rather the umami flavour. Umami is a Japanese name for the naturally occurring amino acid which rises to the surface of the seaweed leaf as the plant dries. This provides great flavour and balance for any dishes it’s used in.

What are the health benefits of Alaria seaweed?

Alaria is highly recommended in the Macrobiotic diet because of its alkaline qualities. It is an excellent source of minerals (especially. calcium, iron, potassium & magnesium) vitamins, a good source of iodine, vegetarian protein, dietary fibre, essential amino acids and many vitamins (especially. C & B complex). To keep the nutrients intact, just soak the dry seaweed in tepid water or add at the very end of cooking a warm dish.

Where is Pacific Harvest’s Alaria sourced?

Pacific Harvest’s Alaria leaves are wild harvested sustainably in Ireland, and are dried naturally to preserve all their nutritional quality.

Our Alaria is also tested for contaminants.
